    • EXPLAINED: Roll Center Adjusters

What Are Roll Center Adjusters (RCAs)?

Roll center adjusters (RCAs) are suspension components used in performance and modified vehicles, especially lowered cars, to correct the roll center of the suspension after lowering. Lowering a car generally improves handling by lowering the center of gravity, but it also changes the suspension geometry, which can negatively affect handling. RCAs are designed to counteract this issue.

      How Do They Work?

      1. Restore Roll Center Height: When a car is lowered, the roll center of the suspension drops too. RCAs help raise the roll center back to an optimal height. By adjusting this, the car can reduce body roll without needing overly stiff springs or sway bars.

      2. Reduce Suspension Stress: Lowered suspensions often create unfavorable angles in the suspension arms, leading to extra wear on ball joints and bushings. RCAs help to reduce this stress by bringing the suspension angles back to a more natural position.

      3. Improved Handling Stability: Correcting the roll center reduces body roll in corners, helping to maintain tire contact with the road for better traction and stability.

RCAs are typically placed between the steering knuckle and the control arm or ball joint, depending on the car’s suspension design. They’re especially popular in track-focused cars and are common in performance suspension setups where precise handling is crucial.
