I didn't really want to review this item, but after 5 emails asking me to, here you go. My issue is not with Coilover Depot at all. It is with Fortune Auto. I didn't buy the least expensive product, I bought Muller which come with upgraded Swift springs. ($1900)
Immediately upon receiving the box, I was concerned. It seems that they have a design flaw with the set designed for my car. Every other coilover competitor I checked with, even car the manufacturer itself (Toyota/Lexus), designs and manufacturers coilovers with the rear coilover struts that are longer than the front. This is quite simply because the distance between the lower mount and the upper mounts is longer on the rear than on the front. But I received a set of 4 Muller COs that were all equal length. There were 2 marked "R" and 2 marked "F" but this was because of the Swift spring rate, not anything else, as all 4 were dimensionally identical. I couldn't understand how this was to work, but I installed them anyway. Of course as I suspected, the rears were absolutely unusable in any setting other than max extension (max height). Even then, way too low for me. I took pictures to show FA. When all 4 were set to max extension, it looked like someone filled the trunk with lead. The front was up quite high and the rear was slammed.
Where the transaction got wonky was when Devin insisted this design is correct and the design calls for front and rear to be the same length. I pointed out all the above and still, they maintained it's correct but that I could have different (longer) bodies sent to me to accommodate this issue. I again pointed out how this isn't a personal preference thing or a "the customer has changed their mind", but a design flaw/error. There is no other way to interpret this issue.
After much back and forth, it was decided to have 2 longer bodies sent out to me at a 2-3 week additional build time. I asked for it to be expedited since this isn't my fault and now I'm already having to wait for the issue to be corrected. With some "checking with the manager", the $50 expedited fee was waived in my case. To me, this should be a given - not something which I should have to request. Unlike FA, I prefer a "let me know how I can make this right" type of management. Instead, I felt I was getting shoulder shrugs like "well, what do you want us to do about this issue?"
When the item arrived (1 1/2 weeks later), they are clearly bodies for a different model. Instead of rose-gold color (Muller), they are green (a la 500?). The color isn't that important to me but I'd prefer after spending almost $2000, that I didn't have Frankenstein-looking coilovers. It would be nice if they matched. The fronts look different from rears with the replacement bodies. Again, the color is the least of my concern. I will say that functionally, the vehicle is balanced properly now, rides nicely. I can now properly raise the rear enough to barely get my fingers between fender and tires like I wanted (just like the front are). And at this setting, it is about mid-way in the height adjustment range, as I would expect from the start - the way the fronts are.
My final issue was with communication. While Devin was good at returning emails, my 3 attempts to speak with someone on the phone to improve communication were absolutely ignored. Not a single response to each request to speak with someone in voice. I know it's 2020 and many young people hate talking to others (on the phone or otherwise), but vocal communication is not dead yet. Text/email has much value but not in all situations.
And after all this fiasco, not a peep from management. They/he never said a word to me. Not anything slightly resembling an apology. Nothing. Just silence. I'm not accustomed to customer service like this.
So, I apologize writing all this on your website. Again, none of this has anything to do with Coilover Depot. But you do sell their products, so you should know how this transaction went for me. And after so many requests to write a review, it appears that you guys value the feedback.
To be fair, I will say that the product, aside from the design issues, appear to be high quality. I did not give them a 1 star for this reason, but overall, I am quite disappointed with the experience on the whole. Thanks.
